About us title

Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a fundamental tool within the school. Email is used extensively as a communication tool as are web pages. All class teachers have their own class web site that is used as a means of communicating with parents and sharing student work.

Staff are encouraged to continually update their ICT skills and to make effective use of the hardware and software available to them. This relates not only to the skills of mastering software but the pedagogical application to their teaching.

The servers used for web based services such as email, online databases and web pages are a combination of Lynux and Macintosh computers. All staff and student computers are PCs. Teachers are required to develop their skills in such a way as to make use of a range of computer hardware and software. All teachers at the school must, as a part of their work, know how to operate the computers in the IDL studio.

Teachers are expected to be familiar with the needs at their class level and use e-mail as a form of communication with families. All staff are given the opportunity to complete the International Computer Drivers Licence (ICDL), an internationally recognised certificate in basic computer operations.

Students are encouraged to extend their use of the computer into all curriculum areas. To this end teachers supplement traditional "snail mail" correspondence material with their own material where more real time teaching is possible. Such real time teaching is only possible through the extensive use of such things as email. Students are expected to complete work using the computer both as a resource and presentation tool.

While in town, children are able to use the computers set up at the school. Tutors and Parents are encouraged to begin introducing children to the computer as early as possible.
