Correspondence work for each student is sent out via mail. All work is arranged in two week lots referred to as sets. A student works through a set, marked by the home tutor and then returns it to the school for assessment by their teacher. The child's work is sent out and returned in special all weather School of the Air mail bags, which, if posted through the normal postal service, is free of charge to parents. Each mail bag has one set (10 days school work) inside. It is important to keep in mind that students do not have the same daily mail service as those in town. Some will have a mail plane twice a week, others once a week, once a fortnight or in some cases once a month. Even with a weekly mail service it can be very difficult if a set does not "catch" the plane. Feedback to students is of vital importance to the teachers and the quality and quantity supplied via written reports on every set is impressive. Every student gets at least one A4 page of comments and feedback on every set of work. This is in addition to that supplied via telephone and email. Library books, CDRoms and DVDs are also sent out to students via the mail service. As a part of the service offered to families arrangements can also be made to collect mail at weekends through the Visitor Centre. |
