Henbury Station 1875 Parkes and Walker applied for the Finke country to establish a cattle station, which they named after their homeland in England. 1877 the first homestead was built at Ellery Creek and the 2,130 square miles was declared theirs. 1886 a log cabin was built on the banks of the Finke River and became the new homestead on Henbury, which still stands today. The Beadon family took over in the early 1900Ős and continued to manage Henbury for many years despite the sale to Young, who went bankrupt after seven years and handed it back to the Beadon family. Early 1930Ős only the naturally watered parts of Henbury were stocked. For many years Henbury and its then outstation Idracowra was managed from the S.A. border property Todmorden. HenburyŐs past owners have been Hastings Dearings and Roy Edwards. A change of ownership was conducted in 1982 when the MortonŐs purchased Henbury and Mr Ross Morton owns and manages Henbury today. |
