Mount Doreen Station Mount Doreen Station was established by my great grandfather, Bill, in 1932 and was named for my great grandmother, Doreen. Bill Braitling was a drover who worked on Wave Hill Station and Victoria River Downs. He came from Springsure of Queensland, leaving there with a few horses when he was sixteen. He rode west into the Territory to find work. He met Doreen Crook when she was living there with her father at Singleton Station. Her family used to pull water at Wycliffe Well for the mobs of cattle travelling through. The Crook family had come out from England in 1908 when Doreen was just four years old. They worked at Hermannsburg and Alice Springs Telegraph Station before moving north to Barrow Creek mines and Singleton Station. Bill and Doreen had one son, Wally, who is my grandfather. He married Barbara Harris and they had four children. The youngest was Matt, my Dad. Now I live at Mount Doreen with my Dad, my mum Debbie (Brumby) and my younger brother Billy, who is 3 years old. |
