What are the Visitor Centre’s opening hours?
We are open between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday through to Saturday and 1.00pm to 4.30pm on Sundays and Public Holidays. We are closed on Good Friday and from the 25th of December to the 1st of January (inclusive). The last tour booking is at 4pm each day.
What are the admission rates? Is there a price for families?
Regular (non-tour group) admission rates valid from 1 April 2019 - 31 March 2020 are as follows: Adult $12.00, Child (5-16 years) $9.00. We offer two different prices for families: $35.00 (for 2 adults and 2 children) and $38.00 (for 2 adults and 3+ children). Children included in this family rate can be up to 18 years of age provided they are visiting with their parents. Alice Springs residents (upon proof) can visit the centre free of charge.
What payment facilities are available?
Admission payments can be made with cash, EFTPOS or credit card (Visa, MasterCard and UnionPay).
What is the recommended duration of a visit to Alice Springs School of the Air?
A visit with a duration of at least 60 minutes minutes is recommended. This includes enough time to view our film, guide presentations on our history and the classroom studio operation, and observe a live or recorded lesson, as well as an opportunity to enjoy our displays and shop. Some stay for much longer watching lessons and conversing with our staff. If you miss a live lesson on a school day or the weekend you are most welcome to come back at no charge the next day/week (ask for a receipt if you wish to do this).
How do I get to the School of the Air?
The centre is easily reached by car, public bus (#100 or # 101) or bicycle from the Alice Springs CBD. AAT Kings A Town like Alice tour visits School of the Air every afternoon. More information can be found on our Location page. If you require a taxi on your departure, our friendly staff are always happy to assist.
What are the film screening and presentation times at the Visitor Centre?
When you arrive we will greet you and begin your tour with a smile. We have no specific time slots for individuals or families, that way you can never miss out on any aspect of the tour.
What language do your guides speak?
Our guides are English speaking however our film can be subtitled in English, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Chinese. Our information sheets are available in the same languages as well as Danish, Japanese, Spanish, Swedish and Hebrew.

We provide information sheets in 13 languages (English, German, Dutch, Danish, Italian, French, Spanish, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified, Japanese, Danish,Swedish and Hebrew). We also offer film subtitles in English, German, Dutch, Italian, French, Chinese Traditional, Chinese Simplified.
